Trauma!
Imagine waking up every night drenched in sweat, heart pounding,reliving a past horror which keeps coming back. For many that is the painful reality of trauma. Whether it has arisen from a car accident, a loss of a loved one, a violent attack ,trauma can cause lasting pain. The past refuses to stay buried ,haunting us every moment of our lives.Behavioural expressions of trauma can be intense and explosive. These unpredictable outbursts and mood swings may occur due to the slightest reminders of the traumatic experience leaving lasting scars on the body and mind.Survivors struggle with guilt,shame ,low self-esteem and find it challenging to form cordial and healthy relationships.
The physical and mental repercussions of trauma cannot be ignored.This can leave one emotionally disconnected,torn apart and haunted as the flashbacks continue to cause fear and anxiety.There could be unexplained issues like stomach aches, muscle tension, head ache and insomnia leading to self destructive behaviour. Sharing one’s trauma can be therapeutic,powerful and cathartic as the heavy burden one carries alone is shed away and released.
